Why does my scalp hurts when I move my hair?

I have very thick hair and am not losing anymore than normal. I don't pull my hair back or use headbands of any kind. Lately, my scalp aches when my hair moves. It affects my whole head except around the very base of the neck and my behind my ears. It is cold where I live, but no colder than it has been. My scalp has been hurting for about a week. I wash my hair once every other day and don't have dandruff. Please help.

This may help, it certainly will not hurt. Due to the time of year it is very cold and dry where I live. To help keep my kids hair (and head) soft and hydrated I apply baby oil to their hair and scalp, let it set for about 5 minutes, rinse and dry as usual. This seems to annoy them but it does make their hair and head nice and soft.

Why does your scalp hurt? Probably because your skin is dry and not as flexible so the root of your hair is taking the brunt of the strain whenever your hair moves. It could also be that you're thinking of too may questions to ask :).

You might want to see a dermatologist. In the mean time try some Neutrogena T-Gel Tar Shampoo. I use T-Gel about three times a week and baby shampoo on other days.

Your scalp is VERY dry.........

It is most probable that your hair is too dry that it's breaking, even if you wash your hair it'll still remain dry and break... I suggest you buy a kind of shampoo that's meant for dry scalp, then visit the hair specialists, it will help.

the weight of the hair is adding stress to your scalp. try getting a layered style to ease off the burden in your scalp.and while you are shampooing your hair, massage the scalp with the tips of your fingers, like they do in hot oil treatments
