this may sound silly, but when was your last haircut? sometimes if you haven't gotten a good chop in a while then strands of hair fall out-sometimes clumps at a time. Though, it is a natural thing to lose a bit of hair. Just like your skin sheds dead/dry skin cells every day-your scalp is releasing dead strands.

Many women get their periods and eat unhealthy foods; that isn't a good indication if you are healthy or not. Your diet can definitely effect the strength of your hair because you may not be providing your body with enough vitamins (especially iron) to keep your hair healthy. I would advise you to make healthier choices in your diet and provide your body with the correct amounts of nutrients.

Is your period regular? Do you carry excess weight, especially in the middle? PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) can have the effect of hair loss because of an excess of androgen. Do a little research on the net and see if it sounds like you. Either way, you might get it checked out by a doctor because there has to be a reason your hair is thinning.
