Cat loosing LOTS of hair?

My cat, 1 year and 2 months male black cat, has just recently been loosing a lot of hair like 6 inches of hair on each of his sides. He now has sores that are crusty and dried bloody under where he lost a lot of hair. He is also skinnier and his meow is quieter and he hardly has any meow now he used to have a very loud one before. He doesnt itch though. He also seems more tired but his aprittie is nomal and the same as before. What is wrong with him?, should I take him to the vet?! thanks!

Yes, take him to the vet and have some blood work done. He could have hypo- or hyperthyroidism, hair loss is a symptom. Or he could have a skin disease. Either or, they will need treatment. Don't try to treat it with human medicine, your vet will give you something for it. I would take him soon. Best wishes!

if he has sores he should obviously see a vet. there is something wrong. he could have a skin allergy or even something worse. the vet is the only one who can do anything for him.

if you don't get your cat dewormed they will grow bigger and bigger inside him....most people don't do anything about this and it's very common, but I know it made my cat sick and I had the same problems but my cat didnt lose hair ...your cat could have the same problems but is getting stressed out which would result in hair loss

its flees... i know sounds dumb my cat was on meds she was having a reaction to flees i thought the vet was stupid she was 2 years old and have never reacted like this before to a couple of flees and she wasn't even scratching. to be on the safe side i would still call your vet but i can promise you thats all it is. like humans when we have an allergy to something we quit eating and react almost the same way just in something so much smaller then us it seems more extreme

You are describing all the symptoms of an abscess (an infection that occurs under the skin usually after a bite or scratch from another cat). They can become very serious. Call the vet, who will probably give him antibiotics and tell you to apply a topical as well. Please don't wait so long next time, most vets will answer a lot of questions over the phone, and give you the best advice even if you don't want to take the cat in to see them. Your cat needs to go though.
